How To Get Your House Ready for Guests this Christmas

Whether you’re hosting Christmas dinner for your family or having guests over, it’s important to make sure that your house is ready to welcome them. This includes cleaning the home thoroughly (top to bottom), making sure all lights are turned on and candles lit, playing some holiday music in advance of guest arrival, and preparing appetizers or desserts ahead of time. The easy thing about this list is that you can do it at any point before the guests arrive – but don’t wait too long!

1. Clean the House Top to Bottom

The first step is to clean the entire house top to bottom. This means sweeping and mopping all floors, taking out the trash, dusting surfaces and furniture, and making sure all bathrooms are sparkling clean. If you have time, go ahead and paint any scuffed walls or touch up any chips in the paint – your guests will appreciate it.

Last but not least, organize the storage closet and hallway closets so they are tidy for guests. You can even go through your clothes and donate any that don’t fit or you haven’t worn in a while – this is especially good if you have extra space because of family coming to visit!

2. Take Out Christas Decorations

Now is a great time to take out your Christmas decorations and put them somewhere visible in the home. This could be anywhere from putting up a tree, to hanging ornaments around doorways and windows, to placing stockings by the fireplace. Not only will this get you into the holiday spirit, but it will also help your guests feel welcome and festive when they walk into your home.

If you don’t have a lot of Christmas decorations, go to your local store and pick up some new ones! There are always great sales this time of year.

3. Put Up Fresh Cut Flowers or Greenery

Another easy way to make your home feel festive is by putting up fresh flowers or greenery. You can buy a Christmas wreath, put some sprigs of holly in a vase, or go all out and get a tree! The important thing is that it should be something that will last for the duration of your guests’ stay.

If you don’t want to spend money on flowers or greenery, go outside and pick up any pine cones, rosemary branches, dried eucalyptus leaves – anything that can be used as a wreath! Last but not least, the best thing about fresh cut flowers is they smell amazing! And if your guests are making a long drive or flight, the smell of fresh cut flowers will be especially nice.

4. Prepare Some Appetizers or Desserts

One of the best things about hosting guests is that you get to show off your cooking skills! This doesn’t mean that you have to spend hours in the kitchen preparing a big feast – there are plenty of recipes out there for appetizers and desserts that are both quick and easy to make, but look impressive.

If you’re not sure where to start, here are a few of our favorite recipes:

– Crockpot Honey and Sriracha Meatballs

– Cranberry Brie Phyllo Cups

– Pumpkin Pie Spice Latte Cheesecake Shooters

– Peppermint Bark Brownies

5. Light Candles Around the House

Another great way to make your home feel festive is by putting up candles around the house – they’re both decorative and smell nice! Line them on windowsills so guests can see them when they walk in, place scented candles in bathrooms for guests to enjoy, or even put them in the guest bedroom so they can see and smell them when they wake up.

6. Play Some Holiday Music in Advance

One of the best things about the holiday season is all the great Christmas music! Not only does it set a festive mood, but it can also help to get you in the spirit of things. If you’re not sure what songs to play, or don’t want to have to worry about changing the CD’s throughout the day, go ahead and play your holiday music in advance. This way, when guests arrive all they have to do is sit back and relax!
