Are you in the process of moving into a new house? If so, congratulations! This is an exciting time in your life. But before you settle in, there are a few things you need to get rid of. We’re talking about clutter, old furniture, unused appliances, outdated decor, and anything else that’s taking up space and not serving a purpose. If you can get rid of these things before you move in, it will make the transition much easier!
1. Clutter
The first thing you don’t want to bring on the move with you is clutter. You can’t control what happens outside your home, but inside of it, you have the power to keep things tidy. Take a look around and see if there’s anything that doesn’t need to be there. Old clothes from high school? Things you haven’t used in five years or more? If so, then it might be time to get rid of them!
This will also help with your move by freeing up space and making packing easier. And as a bonus, decluttering before moving means one less thing you’ll have to do after unpacking once everything is done.
Assess all the rooms in your house. Make a list of things you don’t use or need anymore and decide to donate, sell online or in person at a yard sale, give away for free (to family members, friends).
2. Old Furniture
One of the best things about moving into a new house is getting to start fresh with all new furniture. But if you’re like most people, you probably have some old furniture taking up space in your home. Maybe it doesn’t fit in your new place or maybe it just doesn’t match the style of your new home. Either way, it’s time to get rid of that old furniture!
Make a list of what you want to keep and how much room each item will take up in the new house. Then decide on donating or selling items not needed anymore (online or yard sale).
3. Unused Appliances
You’d be surprised by how many people still have that old microwave they never use. Maybe it was a gift from grandma or an expensive purchase you regret making, but either way, it’s time to get rid of that thing once and for all! It’s taking up space in your new house and will only collect dust there.
Take a look at your appliances and see which ones you don’t use or need. Sell them online, donate to charity, or have a yard sale. Just make sure they’re out of the house before you move in!
4. Outdated Decor
One of the easiest ways to make your house feel like home is by decorating it in a way that reflects your personality. But if you’ve been hanging on to those old decorations for years, it might be time to let them go. They might not fit with the style of your new home or they might just be plain outdated. Either way, it’s time to get rid of that old stuff and make room for some new decorations!
5. Anything You Do Not Need or Use
If you have items that no longer serve a purpose or are of use to you, then it’s time for them to go! The last thing you want is clutter in your new home and these things will only take up space there too. Look around your house and see if there anything that doesn’t need to be kept anymore.
6. Extra Stuff That is Being Stored in the Attic, Basement or Garage
The final thing you want to get rid of before moving into a new house is anything that’s taking up space and not being used. This could be extra furniture, holiday decorations, or just random stuff you’ve been collecting over the years. If it’s not being used and it’s not important to you, then get rid of it!
